Why DIY?

The bottom line is about saving money. On average you save about 60% of the cost of having a national installation company install your conservatory. Please fill the Online Quote form to realize now much you can save.

Whats the difference between a DIY system and a trade system?

The K2 Konnect system was designed for the home owner who has no fitting experience. The diy conservatory panels arrive fully glazed and connect with an aluminium plate. The trade system has to be screwed together and the glazing must be installed on site. Hence installation companies employ experienced fitters to install the trade system.

Do I have to buy a standard off the shelf design?

No. All the K2 Konnect self build conservatories are completely bespoke. If you look at our combination DIY conservatories page it will give you some idea of the vast range of self build conservatories there are to choose from. Additionally, you can specify high end glass treatments and a variety of decorative finishes to the windows. We can achieve practically any design you can imagine.

Can I build a DIY conservatory on my own?

If the conservatory is simple and fairly small you should be able to complete the installation on your own. Keep in mind that the frames arrived preglazed and are fairly heavy. If you are installing a more complicated structure like a P-shape you will definitely need an extra pair of hands for the roof. Similarly, if you want to install glass into the roof structure another pair of hands will be required.

What materials will I need to buy?

If you purchase the K2 Konnect, DIY Conservatory system you will not need to buy anything. All fixings, sealants, rainwater goods, etc. are supplied, the only thing you may want to upgrade is the flashing system. A bituminous product called Flashband is supplied but we advise the use of lead as it is a more permanent finish.

What is U-value?

The U-value is the ability of the conservatory glazing to retain heat within the structure. An untreated double glazed sealed unit has a U-value of 2.8. When adding a low-emission treatment the U-value improves to 1.7 and when the top of the range Celsius Elite system is used the U-value further improves to 0.9.

What is the best roof glazing material?

This question will be mainly driven by your budget. As standard DIY conservatories are supplied with 25mm, five wall polycarbonate. This is the most common conservatory roof glazing material in the UK. You can upgrade this system, at very little cost, to a 35mm, seven wall system that has improved U-value and heat reflection properties. The next step up is untreated toughened glass which is better looking and reduces noise dramatically. This should not break the bank but does not have good heat reflection or U-value properties. The top of the range is Celsius Elite and depending on the size of the roof can set you back many hundreds or even thousands of pounds

What is a Durabase?

The Durabase is an insulated steel base DIY system that is used instead of the traditional concrete and brick structure. The base and wall finish is almost identical to that of the traditional method without having to have brick laying skills and in a fraction of the time without creating much mess or disruption.
